Spreading Awareness:
Microsoft's Green Design Principles
As someone on the consumer side of technology, I like to keep up with software (Blender, Womp, etc.) and hardware (i.e. laptops, PCs) news and design trends. However, as someone who hasn't come from a computer-related field, I had no idea about the negative impacts of digital pollution and e-waste until I came across Microsoft Design's article on Green Design Principles. I was shocked but inspired after falling into the rabbit hole of exploring how design can play a big role in digital pollution.
As someone who's passionate about tech for good, I thought to myself "If I didn't know about this, there's no way the average Joe does." So I decided to create a series of Instagram posts highlighting what I've learned. Since then, I've been looking for ways to implement cleaner, greener design practices into my everyday life as well.
Here is the link to Microsoft's in-depth article on Green Design Principles. Give it a read, you won't regret it.
Seemingly Small but Shocking Statistics
I decided to create 3D art inspired by some of these numbers, combining the world's most recognizable design elements— emojis— with a background inspired by green design principles.
