Celebrating My Humble Beginnings with NVIDIA Studio

Celebrating 1-Year of Modelling on Blender
NVIDIA kicked off a challenge to students and digital artists to share their #CreatorJourney and how much their art and style has progressed. As an NVIDIA Studio Partner, I decided to show the evolution of my art style while sharing my story and giving advice on my Creator Journey thus far.

The @Janice.Journal #CreatorJourney

I recently hit my 1-year mark of learning Blender. As I scrolled through my social feed and rewatched old TikToks/reels I made earlier in my Blender journey, I remembered back to my first time trying something new and how bad I was at it. I first tried making the infamous "Blender Donut" on my old Laptop. But because it was so old and outdated, it couldn't even get past making the sprinkles.

But I wasn't about to give up. I borrowed an old PC from my friend in hopes that I can run Blender without any problems. And it worked! At first, I was so excited to immediately get into it that I tried to bite off more than I can chew. I tried make a whole Blender city on my own after just one tutorial (spoiler warning: BIG MISTAKE). After taking a short break after being discouraged, I sucked it up and did nothing but re-create models, characters, and bedroom scenes for 3 months straight.

After absorbing as many tutorials as possible, I decided to take another shot at making my own models and scenes. I referred back to a few tutorials and texture nodes here and there, but soon I realized I was making a lot of progress and creating models from scratch without having to look at tutorials.

Since then, I've continued learning a lot and sharing a lot. After I got comfortable with the basics, I started to have fun with making my own art, by doing art challenges and collabs.

And if there's one word of encouragement I can offer from what I've learned: It's never too late to learn.
